Organised the 1st Movie Marathon in Tropics focusing on Abortion.

Underwent Accreditation by International Planned Parenthood Federation

Participated in the Zestra Sexpo 2006 Exhibition 24-26 Nov. IPPF –ESEAOR conducted eIMS training at SPPA

2005
Organised the 1st World Infertility Month in collaboration with the College of Obstetricians and Gyneacologists’
Organized the 1st Youth Forum on HIV&AIDs in collaboration with National Youth Council (NYC) and North West Community Development Council (NWCDC). Dr Maliki Osman, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports graced the event

2004
With the support of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports & Eli Lily organised a sexual intimacy workshop and launched the first ever Pak Tor (dating) guides Sold red ribbons to mark World AIDs day

Established SPPA’s website Organised “Sex in Air” to support Sex Education. It was collaborated with a commercial organization.

Review of the Association’s Strategic Plan.

Organised LIFE – a dance performance expressing sexuality. It was officiated by Mr Charles Chong, Chairman of Government Parliamentary Committee on Community Development & Sports and Member of Parliament

Conducted and presented teen survey on Sexuality and Relationships in Singapore, 1999, to the National Youth Council (NYC).

SPPA celebrated 50 years of service.

Our Mr Gay Swee Poh, PBM was elected as the Treasurer of IPPF’s 1st Governing Council
Conducted Teen Survey on Sexuality and Relationship involving about 2400 youths with the National Youth Council, Singapore
Organised the 1st “Marriage Fun Fair”
Organised the 1st Walk-a-jog – Buona Vista Healthy Lifestyle 99 together with Buona Vista Constituency Sports Club Management Committee
Held a special reception for volunteers on 5 May. It was graced by Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, Member of Parliament for Cheng San GRC.

1998
SPPA shifted to new premises at Blk 3A Holland Close, #01-55, Singapore 272003. The office was officially opened Mr Lim Swee Say, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC ( Mr Lim is now a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Secretary General of the National Trade Congress. Ms Claire Chiang an Nominated Member of Parliament was also in attendance. Preseneted a research paper titled “Youth Perception: Sexuality Issues vs. Hollywood/Western Movies at the National Youth Forum organized by the national youth Council. It was officiated Mr S Iswaran, Vice-Chairman of NYC and Member of Parliament. Mr Iswaran is now Senior Minister of State (Trade & Industry)

1997
SPPA launched the sale of CD-ROM on “Sex Education for Asian Teens” as an interactive educational tool.

1995
SPPA emphasized on six key areas:
(a) Sex education for youth (in-school and out of school).
(b) Sex education for teachers and other agencies.
(c) Pre-marital preparation & marriage enrichment.
(d) Organisation & Resource Development.
(e) Human Sexuality Counselling and Reproductive Health Programme.
(f) IEC/M Material Development.

1993
Association embarked on Challenges Initiative Project: Towards 2000: Strategic Plan. It was officiated with Mr Chng Jit Koon, Minsiter of State (Community Dvelopmet).

1991
Co-organised Mums,Babes & Children Exhibition from 16-20 March with XPO Consultants. Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, MP for Yuhua Constituency graced the event

A pre-University seminar on the “ Importance of Family Life Education in school was organized. Dr Seet Ai Mee, Minister of State (Education) graced the event

Launched self-awareness programmes for women. Organised the 1st Inter School family Life Quiz 1988 Started training programmes in sexuality counselling for medical and professional groups.

Change of Association’s name to The Singapore Planned Parenthood Association (SPPA).

Conducted Second Family Life Education Study of Adolescents. Establishment of SPPA Counselling Centre. Hosted IPPF-ESEAOR Seminar on Women’s Rights and Reproductive Health 12-15 Aug

1985
To mark the International year of the Youth, organized a youth forum entitled “How to be an askable adult”

1984
Organised the National Charade Competition on Love and Responsibility. The finals was officiated Dr. Tay Eng Soon ,Minister of State (Education)

1983
Organised the 1st Youth Charade Competition on Love and Responsibility. The finals was officiated Dr. Ang Kok Peng, Member of Parliament for Buona Vista Constituency, Singapore. Hosted the IPPF-ESEAOR Study Group from 21-24 September.

Hosted the IPPF – ESEAO Regional Council in Singapore

Organised 1st Seminar cum Exhibition on Men’s Role in Family Planning from 1-4 May

Published Youth in Singapore by Prof, Saw Swee Hock and Dr. Aline Wong

Organised a Seminar on Human Sexuality and Family Planning together with the Singapore Family Planning and Population Board

1979
Organised the 1st Seminar of “Parenting in Transition” on 5the September at the RELC. The event was graced by Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, Senior Minister of State (Education). Dr Tan retired as Deputy Prime Minister.

Produced a Manual on Family Life Education for Special Schools in Singapore Produced “Sex is not a dirty word – A guide on love and growing for Young People

Revised Guide to Family Planning

Conduct Survey on Singapore with Professor Saw Swee Hock and Dr Aline Wong as consultants. Both of them were active resource persons of the association. Dr Wong entrered politics and retired as a Minister of State.

1978
Organised IPPF ESEAO Regional Seminar on Adolescent held from 28 Feb to 1 Mar in Singapore

Organised the 1st Exhibition on “Towards Responsible Living” together with Leng Kee grassroots organization. The event was officiated by Dr Ow Chin Hock, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Singapore and Member of Parliament for Leng Kee Constituency.

Organised the 1st seminar on Adolescent Sexuality on 28 Aug It was officiated Dr.Ho Fuan Lim. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Affairs Singapore.

Hosted IPPF-ESEASO Regional Training Course for Trainers in Sterilisation together with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Singapore

First Family Life Education Study of Adolescents was conducted.

Training seminars conducted for teachers in Special Schools from the Ministry of Education.

Published Curriculum and Manual on “Teaching of Sex Education in Special Schools”

Inaugural Youth Panel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia attended by A Palanippan.

Organised 1st Youth Training Camp on “Towards Responsible Parenthood” for Youth Leaders with People’s Association Youth Movement Organised 1st Family Life Education programme for National Servicemen with the Singapore Armed Forces

Established working relationship with People’s Association Youth Movement and The Singapore Association for the Deaf to conduct Family Life Education programme.

1974
Established a pact with the Singapore Industrial Labour Organisation (SILO) and The Pioneers Industries Employees Union (OIEU) , Singapore Council of Social Service, YMCA and YWCA to conduct Family Life education programme.

1973
Hosted the IPPF South East Asia Seminar-Workshop on Youth Orientated Programme from 12 to 14 Mar. Mr Othman Wok, Minister of Social Affairs, Singapore officiated at the Opening Ceremony.

1972

Renamed to Family Planning Association of Singapore

1971
In Nov, through the efforts of Dr Letty Yong and a group of old members, the Association re-activated to complement government programmes and started on Family Life Education (FLE).

1968
The Association was closed down on 1 Nov by the Singapore government. Its assets and activities were acquired by the Singapore Family Planning and Population Board. Staff members also asked to report to SFPPB.

1966
Completion and occupation of the Family Planning Association of Singapore’s Building at 26 Dunearn Road. Singapore on 10th October. The land was leased from the Singapore government and the construction of building was partially funded by the Ford Foundation grant and rest from well wishers.

Establishment of the Singapore Family Planning and Population Board (SFPPB) as a result of the government adopting an official population policy.

SFPPB took over the management of our clinics.

1965
30 clinics were managed with 103,986 attendees.

1963
IPPF International Conference held in Singapore. It was officiated by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew

1961

1960
A three-month family planning campaign organized as part of the government’s Mass Health Education Programme.

1959
Established and managed 27 clinics with a total of 34,445 attendees.

1952
Founding member of International Planned Parenthood Federation.

1949
The Family Planning Association of Singapore formed (July 22) and its first clinic opened in November. A total of 7 clinics were opened.
